Does your computer seem to be running slower these days? There are two areas which we can consider, software and hardware. First, let's talk about SOFTWARE.
If your computer is periodically connected to the Internet, or you have a connection which is always present, it is a good idea to take some simple steps to make sure that your system is running at least as good as it was designed to and that your personal information is safe.
It is easy and relatively inexpensive to purchase and install software programs which help in the following three areas:
Windows Operating System Maintenance -
Cleanup and verification of the "Windows Registry". Pruning of your browser's "Cookies" cache and history files. Generalized check for superfluous, duplicate and "orphaned" desktop shortcuts and application directories. Purchasing an application which will perform these listed functions should cost less than $100. Installation of legitimate operating system "patches" and upgrades is free and should be conducted.
Virus Detection/Prevention -
Your computer should have an up-to-date virus protection application which is capable of scanning through your system for viruses and check incoming and outgoing e-mail files and attachments.
Spy Ware and Ad Ware -
Even "normal" Internet surfing, searching and staying in touch with friends, after some time, will slow down your system with unwanted, parasitic programs that try to guide you to certain advertisements or just figure out what kinds of things you're interested in. What ever their plan is, you haven't asked these programs to run on your computer and they'll try their best to hide from you - all the while, using up precious megahertz that could otherwise be speeding up your applications.
Any traveler on today's information highway will probably be suffering if they haven't taken into account, readily available software precautions as outlined above.
Now let's talk about HARDWARE.
Even the fastest computer, once purchased, will be too slow or not have enough memory for the next version of your favorite program or application. Let's face it, we benefit from the race of high technology - every time you turn around, a new record is broken and a faster, more efficient machine is now available for less money. But there are things we can do to keep what we have operating as best as it can..
Clearly, the simplest hardware upgrade for any personal computer today is to increase the available RAM memory. RAM (Random Access Memory) is the memory that holds
