Poetry: Ending a relationship

It is not my insanity
that caused my flight
it is merely your vanity
and your desire to always be right

I can not stay
I was not made to be in a cage
or live up to your ideals
not meant to obey

I am not your caged little bird,
there for you to hear me sing,
I have forgotten the words
and can't fly if you break my wing

You hit me with words or rage
when I'm not doing as I'm told
I have to be free of this cage
I was not made out of your mold

With broken wings and silenced song
I look back at you through the bars
can't you see I have to move on
before my heart is covered in scars

I promised I would be there for you and fight
but not in a battle against your words hard spoken,
flying upwards towards my own light
out of the cage I've finally broken

Hear my song
Lift me to reach the sky
Love me as I am,
Or let us gently say goodbye

    Gloating Too Soon

    I truly did believe
In a gloating sort of way
    That the man I left
    Would miss me
    When I finally went away.
    How
