can often be found to concentrate their efforts toward one lineage of Arabian horses, the Egyptian breds, the Polish breds, the Spanish breds, the Russian breds, as well as the domestic breds. Some people combine these lineages hoping to achieve the best each has to offer. No matter a preference for lineage, or a particular look, the Arabian horse has proven itself over the centuries to be a master of versatility, competing in several venues successfully. One competition which always wins the audience and provides for a colorful and distinguished class is the Arabian Native Costume, where both rider and horse are adorned in elaborate period costumes suited to their native country.
The Arabian horse has for centuries been noted for its intelligence, its fire of spirit, and its courage. It is a highly adaptable horse and can excel, with the proper training, in many disciplines. Though it has never taken on the prestige of the Thoroughbred when it comes to racing, the Arabian horse has left its mark here also. Arabian meets were first organized in the late 1950's and continued to gain strength over the years. Today there are a good number of Arabian racing meets and to insure its continued success, the Arabian Jockey Club was chartered in 1987. Not to leave its destiny of racing merely on the Turf, the Arabian also excels at long distance racing over rough terrain known in America as the Tevis Cup Race.
Whether looking for a reliable trail mount, a Western or English pleasure competitor, a racing prospect, or a horse for halter competition, the Arabian horse is a breed worthy of scrutiny. They combine beauty with intelligence, will with stamina, and overall a desire to please their human counterparts.
