Humor: Things that go bump In the night

Things that go bump in the night

Well I am now 50yrs. old and I recall a time that I totally was scared of everything but would never admit it. I had a cousin who was a lot older than me, her name was Patty and she was 7yrs. older. So by the time I got up to age 14 she had already been married a couple of years. I always looked forward to getting away from my own family and go anywhere, just anywhere to be away from my crazy mother and that whole bunch. So when requested to babysit for my cousin, I would jump at the chance and cancel anything else with my friends. I thought my cousin was so cool, and her husband too, I had known him most of my life since age 5.

I get over to their place at about 3:30 pm on a Friday and I am spending the whole weekend over there. They lived 15 minutes from us in an apartment complex in a rather nice area. They had a park in the center of it with trees everywhere, a huge playground, lots of sand, benches and they even had cozy places with pick nick tables. It was nice, and they had a pool on the far side of this incredible place. These apartments were like townhouses, and sometimes you would hear people arguing, and it could get loud if they took it outside.

At this time I was reading a book, it was the Exorcist, which meant I wasn't sleeping much either. That book kept me reading, but scared the total crap out of me. I had nightmares, and slept with the light on for almost a year. As if the light was going to keep away the Evil! Well, their daughter was all of 4 yrs. old and loved it when I would stay with her, we would do all kinds of stuff and she was pretty easy to wear down. So when I put her to bed by 8:00 she was ready to go, and wouldn't even argue. As long as I would stay with her for 10 min. or so and tell her a story, she was a goner before the full 10 min. I don't think I ever got to tell her a whole story when putting her to bed. We always would finish the story sometime the next day, or not at all.

Got her down, and sound asleep without any fuss. Went downstairs to watch TV. and read, I liked the TV on for the noise so I wouldn't hear the neighbors. On Friday nights it was rowdy
around there, and people drinking, and messing around out front. So the TV was welcomed noise, and I settled in to read more of my book. I guess It had been about 1-2 hours later I heard a noise outside in the back area. They had a small yard area which they also had these big sliding glass doors, with screen doors. I heard a bump, out there
