The world would be a better place without ...

People who have no regard for human life. Who feel no remorse in abusing, mutilating and killing, just to satisfy their own twisted urges. What possible purpose do they have on this earth? Yet we are forced to share our planet with them, because after all they have rights. It doesn't matter how many people's basic human rights they have disregarded, once they are caught, they are entitled to theirs.

Two of these people are at the forefront of my mind, where they have been for many years. I won't use names, because the victim's families have certainly endured enough already. I live in the same town as these horrendous people. They were husband and wife. The months leading up to their arrest, left my community feeling unsafe and panicked in their own neighborhood. Their crimes were so despicable and violent, that outrage was felt across the world.

The first of their victims was the wife's own teenage sister. On Christmas eve, she willingly drugged this innocent young girl, to offer as a gift to her husband. She stood by and watched, as her husband raped her own, unconscious sister. Unfortunately, things went horribly wrong, and her sister died. Right there in her own home. The place where she was supposed to be safest. Somehow they got away with it, which left them free to do it again.

A young girl, abducted from right outside her own home, was their next victim. She was taken back to the couple's home, and forced to endure things I can't even imagine. She was degraded and forced to perform sexual acts, on both husband and wife. This was all videotaped for there pleasure. After days of this abuse, she was killed, and dismembered. Her body parts were encased in blocks of cement, and thrown into a lake about two miles from my home. It was a gruesome discovery for the fishermen who found her. Once again, they got away with it.

Walking home from high school, on a bright spring day, an innocent, unsuspecting girl was forced into their car at knife point. She too was brought back to their home. Days of torture, rape and terror ensued. Videotapes were made of her horrific ordeal, as she was stripped of every bit of human dignity. After killing her, her lifeless body was discarded at the side of the road. Just as though she were trash.

Acting on tips from the public, the police finally arrested them. When taken into custody, the wife used the battered wife defense. She made a plea bargain for her testimony against her husband. A twelve year sentence was
