Excerpt from "Psychics and Swords: The Amazing and Totally Plausible Adventures of Steve Walton"
They dragged us off, unbound but surrounded by guards, and tossed us into a metal room. It was maybe ten feet in all dimensions, and pitch black. We both landed with unpleasant thuds.
"That was uncalled for," I said. "We were only going to annihilate them. Nothing to get buggy about."
"Yeah."
I heard a click and a few flicks. A small flame appeared. Cram, it seems, had brought Billy's lighter. We looked around our cage. Nothing but cold black metal all around.
I figured my powers were our best bet, and focused a beam of energy toward the door. Strangely enough, the beam vanished when it contacted the metal. I turned to Cram.
"Seen any prison-break movies?"
"Of course! What else would I do in my spare time? And I know just what to do. Here goes." He closed the lighter and made his way to the cold metal door. He pounded a few times. "Let us out! We're, like, totally sick!"
Silence.
"We're dying! And this disease is sure to spread to you!"
More silence.
"I'm sure you think your different body chemistry makes you immune to our human disease, but I assure you it'll hit you a million times harder than it hits us!"
I rolled my eyes into the ongoing silence.
"Ain't they heard of civility?" Cram asked.
I sighed. "Has anyone?"
There was another thump as he sat down. "I suppose not."
Time passed, probably a few hours.
"I'm thinking of something pitch black," I said.
"This room?"
"Bingo."
"Okay, my turn." Cram spent a few moments thinking in silence. "I'm thinking of something bright orange."
"My shirt?"
"Dang, you're good."
"I know. I rock." I felt a tingle somewhere in the back of my mind, where the spiders were busy building their webs. Someone was approaching. "Allow me to demonstrate just how much I rock," I said, standing. "OPEN SESAME!"
The door groaned open.
"Holy smokes!" Cram said.
The alien that had opened the door then stepped into the room. "Silence your smoking! Humans, we demand to know why you are on our vessel!"
"Uh, because you locked us in?" I said as Cram stood.
"Insolent human! Are you the one who destroyed the great Lord Scamator?"
Cram suddenly laughed hysterically. "What is this, a witch hunt?"
I frowned. "What, someone killed your friend, so now you're trying to get revenge?" The rage reawakened in my chest as I thought about my own fallen friends.
"Be silent and answer the question!"
"Okay, that makes even less sense than something I would say," Cram
