Political views should be more important than color. The focus should be on the issues and each individual's approach to the issues rather than the color of their skin. A focus upon the color of Obama's skin color has masked the greater issues. The question should be "is Obama an individual who I would select as the next president of the United States. America has a number of issues which will fall upon the next president. The issues include the war in Iraq, the economy, infrastructure and establishing "better" relationships with other countries.
Three candidates seek the presidency. Each should be evaluated upon their character and their ability to tackle the issues. Let's examine their character. Hillary emphasizes her experience. Her experience might have been a plus if we were in the years prior to the Bush administration. In 2008, we need a "diplomat". We need someone who can heal the wounds the present administration inflicted upon other matins and countries. A America can longer "carry" a "big stick" and say you will do it my way or else. Other nations will no longer accept that approach. Obama would be better. He is a diplomat. Those in authority, except the Bush administration, agree that the current situation in Iraq requires the input of other nations regardless of our agreement or disagreement. In 2008, we must accept that "Iran" is adjacent to Iraq. Some say Iran is involved in the affairs of Iraq. Should we expect anything less. Our agreement or disagreement with Iran and its approach will not be a deterrent to Iran. Its better to talk with Iran than to engage in a continued struggle with Iran. Some might say, I am being rather weak. I am not weak, I am practical. Let's deal with reality and not our view of reality as we believe it should be. The United States might be a "super power" but it can no longer go "Merrily" along its way irregardless of other nations and countries.
I admire and respect Senator McClain. In 1972 he might have been what the nation needed. In 2008 he is not what the nation needs. My beliefs are not due to his age. I believe as I do because of his philosophy which he has yet to reveal. My concern is his continued voicing of the current status qua in Washington DC. New blood with "fresh" ideas is needed in 2008. McClain wants to continue the Bush Approach to Iraq. The present administration's approach to Iraq has not been successful and will not be successful What is our goal in Iraq? That goal continues to change. Rather than merely support the current administration, McClain needs to highlight a new approach. If he agrees that the troops should remain in Iraq, he should cite and justify his reasoning. Its not enough for him to parrot the current administration. Let's forget about color. The world is no longer limited to "black or white.
Another concern involves the Middle East's acceptance of a female president. How will they relate to a female president? Some mention C. Rice. Question, what did C. Rice accomplish during her trips to the middle east? Some mention Margaret Thather. She was "good". but she severed at a time when we were not heavily involved in the Middle East.
Rather than focus upon the color of Obama's skin and that of the other candidates, we should focus upon the issues.
