Planned writing time and overcoming obstacles

If you are looking to be a productive writer then you need to make sure that you are planning a writing time and sticking to it. It is really the only way that you will find yourself moving forward as a writer. Other wise, you will be too busy and too overwhelmed with other things. Sure it is easy to do. Getting distracted and overcoming the obstacles of life is really easy to do. The bright sunshine can call your name, as can a million other things.

Planning.
If you really want to be a writer, then you have to set time aside to do just that. Try to pick a time that you aren't easily going to neglect. If you aren't a morning person, don't pick the time before the kids wake up and then spend that hour and a half hitting the snooze button over and over again. Pick a realistic time, one where you really will show up. It is important that you set aside as much time as you can for the writing process to achieve your goals. This is different for each person, because it depends on what your goals are.

Avoiding Distractions.
Distractions can be the death of your writing plans. You have to try and avoid them to the best of your ability. To do this you will need to have a clean work space that is somewhere where you will get the fewest distractions. If your phone normally rings a lot then you need to turn it off so that you can get some work done. If you work best with a little music or a candle burning, then do those things. But work hard to avoid distractions.

Overcoming Other Obstacles.
Life itself seems to offer us a thousand and one obstacles for us. We have to try and overcome them all. When it is scheduled to be a writing time then force it to be a writing time with emergencies as the only excuse. If it is a rough writing time, try and work through it. If you are struggling to find something to write, or if you are being interrupted a lot, try to work through it.

Life will happen, but if you are wanting to be a writer then you have to stick with your goals. You have to keep the writing times that you have planned. You have to avoid distractions and overcome the every day obstacles that we all face. You will have to work at it, but it can be done.
