The Runaways:
One year after Eddie graduated from college he had moved to Topeka, Kansas. The great automobile industry boom brought the city population up. Eddie Blake had the opportunity to practice his business degree with The Smith Automobile Company.
This company produced the Veracity, Smith, and Great Smith lines of automobiles from 1902 to 1912.
Living in Topeka gave Eddie the chance to dabble in politics also. He met many government officials including Mayor Sir Samuel Gillott who helped get Eddie deeply involved in politics.
Sandy had finished her schooling which involved animal husbandry. With Jed and Laura's assistance Sandy in getting set up to use her knowledge by opening her own business in Junction City. They called it her graduation gift. The area for miles around was in dire need of a veterinarian.
Sandy was kept so busy that she had four additional rooms built onto the shop for her and Jimmy's living quarters. Part of the shop attached to Billy's Livery Stable where Sandy could house sick animals when necessary. Jimmy, (Sandy's brother) would be graduating soon and Sandy wouldn't have to drive from the ranch daily.
Three years after Sandy graduated it was Little Jimmy's turn. He hung his shingle in Junction City also. Jed and Laura again handed out with the graduation gift of helping Jim get started with his own office.
Little Jimmy's nick name remained, although Jim continued to grow until he reached six five and weighed two hundred seventy pounds of solid muscle. Jim worked out daily while in school. He loved to play football and was also a top wrestler. Jim passed all his exams with top honors and was given his degree in Law.
The year was 1906. Jed and Laura were home alone again. The circle had closed. The children were out of the nest. Jed and Laura did a lot of traveling around America and some overseas. The ranch was left in their children's care. Once a month Eddie came home to go over the ranch finances. Jed and Laura s health held up and they truly enjoyed the golden years.
Most of Jimmy's work consisted of helping people fill out legal papers and small disputes. His business was slow most of the time. Jim didn't care as long as he could make ends meet. The Law office and Sandy's shop were paid for, thanks to mom and dad.
When business was slow, Jim would help Sandy out when she needed him. Sandy had hired a full time helper. It was a young lady that Sandy had associated with while going to college. This extra time that Jim had also gave
