As a respiratory therapist I hear many stories from the sickbed. One day I listened intently as a fascinating retired army general in his twilight days spoke about the current situation in Iraq. He had deduced that the Iraq war was an interesting study in reverse tactical maneuvering.
He affirmed that modern military strategies operate solely on the principle of objectives; however, seemingly those running the Iraqi invasion had employed none of these sciences. He claimed that successful invasion campaigns require satisfaction of ten premises prior to deployment, a fact well known by modern armies, and one that is taught in all military colleges. If military efforts are to be successful, then factors such as clear identification of goal, clear exit plan, clear political support at home and abroad, and other criterion must first be established. He then pointed out how NONE of these criteria were met before the Iraqi invasion.
However, he also claimed that the US military does not botch a simple invasion, so there must be a hidden agenda. He made the clear point that the underlying objective in Iraq has been accomplished by virtue of the lack of establishing these ten premises; that in truth it must have been preconceived that the US military could neither win, nor end the war in Iraq, once troops were deployed. Moreover, political efforts have been successful in ensuring continued US military presence in Iraq.
Furthermore, this soldier claimed that the political motivation for war is measured monetarily. Therefore, if we want to find the culprits behind the invasion of Iraq, the country with the world's third largest oil reserve, we follow the money. Today I realize that this noble man has given his life for a timeless and successful campaign, that of truth.
Meanwhile, as I pay more and more of my hard-earned pay to The Saudi Royalty, Dubai, and OPEC to fill my gas tank, I am reminded of past failed cultures, like ancient Egypt. Egypt built Great Pyramids to commemorate the mega-wealthy, in lieu of developing infrastructures for The People who actually worked. Today, The Great Pyramids stand in the middle of The Great Desert. During these days of eroding US financial power, and preceding what may precipitate into the next World War, I realize that the United States has now been reduced to merely a junkyard guard-dog of a country located somewhere between Saudi Arabia and Iraq.
