Little hippie
Long hair, bandannas, blue jeans,
Tie-dye, toke, turn off
Mushroom, cloud and taken
Listening first to Tommy
Amazed.
And war, watching children fly into the jungle
Die and return ghosts
Assimilate to life
Education, leading to the place I stand.
Wake up baby boomer,
Wondering where it went?
Dreams and candles
Blown out:
I stand, or sit
Amazed
Overcome by a desire
Retreat, regress, return
To little hippie
Then realize, rationalize, reveal
That from that revolution
Came the freedoms
Cultural shift in values
All the new and shining
Is absorbed into the norm
Everyday the world projects
Dreams and visions in fruition
And, like a mirror,
Reflects what is behind the times
We call the present.
