Unforgettable weddings

The most unforgettable wedding I have ever been to was my own. It was my second time around and this time though it seemed it would be too good to be true, it wasn't. Everything just fit.

Within 1 week I found out about my fiance finally picking our date(as we had been engaged for over a year by then, not sure when to set the date) , I found out who we were having as Matron of Honor and Best Man, about flowers, location, bulletins, songs, music, singers, church, getting the legal things all taken care of, and on and on.

I found that I had to get my already tailor made gown fitted and amazingly it turned out perfect. It was a pearly white silky material with a lace overlay, styled in a Victorian/Renaissance era that was age appropriate without being too much.

Of course with the dress then I had to locate shoes, an adorable pair of pearl white chunky heels with little bows for just a bit of girly charm. I even was able to have the "something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue" all within 7 days.

My husband was able to borrow my Dad's suit and tie and added his own personality and sense of humor by wearing sandals rather than dress shoes. He even got a new haircut for the occasion.

We had luck of once-in-a-lifetime as my family had out of country guests coming and they ended up being able to participate-they were our Matron of Honor and Best Man. Two very special Finns, one of whom I fondly call my host sister from when my family hosted her as an exchange student in my high school days.

Flowers were taken care of by a cousin who made them more beautiful than I ever could imagine. Rather than choose wedding colors we went with our favorite colors of purple and silver and added white accents.

Our home church served as the perfect place for us to say our "I do's" as everyone present, family and friends and God alike, already knew we were and are two best friends announcing to the world our love and that we want to spend the rest of our lives together.

Our songs were the traditional "Wedding Song" and "The Rose" but we gave our special twists by having one as our processional and the other as a memorial occasion to honor departed loved ones as we blended our two families together as one. A simple but loving gesture that will be naught forgotten.

I could go on and on but what the main idea here is rather than have a wedding that spends thousands of dollars and is ritzy or glam or paparazzi friendly, my husband and I chose the "KISS" principle and kept things simple.

Some people spend thousands to millions on making everything just right and we found when you find the right person it doesn't matter if you downscale the price and have a smaller wedding. The important thing is the reason you are there in the first place.

Just like the song, "My Guy" says: "I may not be a movie star, but when it comes to being happy, we are. There's not a man today that could take me away from my guy."-I truly believe that, as this time I definitely can honestly say my wedding was everything I could ask for and more, it was and is unforgettable.
