A Wink
A stare is blatantly obvious
Concentration is the key
One is grasping understanding
Brain is churning gracefully
But a wink is tricky and sly
One never knows what to think
How am I to fathom
Just from one little blink
Father hugs mother
Maybe later says he
Soundlessly it follows
Only her eyes can see
So a wink is a sign of love
Maybe so, maybe not
If it is, I am confused
The mailman winks quite a lot
Teacher greets his young class
Just as he has every day
With a gleeful flash of an eye he says
Film today, put the books away
How am I to view this
A facial tick means impending joy
Should I briefly shut an eye towards the postman
Or would hope of happy notes seem a bit coy
I think I shall maintain my status
He will always know what to think
My stare will not confuse him
But what will happen if I wink?
