I am a lipstick girl at heart. Sure, I use plumping lip-gloss occasionally to give my lips a fuller appearance, but lipstick will always have a place in my makeup bag. Therefore, if I could have only one, I would choose lipstick over gloss any day of the week.
I am a fan of the old glamour made popular back in the forties and fifties, when red lips and dark eyeliner were all the rage in Hollywood. The "natural" look that is popular today has never appealed to me very much. I suppose it is fine for some but whenever I look "natural", I simply appear washed out. That's not a very attractive look for me at all.
My natural lip color is very close to the skin tone of my face so without rich color on my lips: they tend to fade right into the rest of my face and the definition is lost. I cannot get that with lip-gloss. Most are very sheer and don't last as long as I would like.
Whenever I wear lip-gloss, I am constantly having to re-apply it every thirty minutes or so. My schedule is hectic, so frequently taking time out to refresh my makeup is not something I want to do. Lipstick allows me to have that advantage. I just put it on in the morning and do not have to reapply it until after lunch.
I tend to gravitate more toward the matte lipstick than the "wet" look, which may also explain my minuscule intolerance of lip-gloss. I've also heard recently that as you age, lip-gloss can actually make you appear older than younger. Believe me, no woman who is reaching thirty wants to look any older than they already do. Am I right, ladies?
Another reason for me to choose lipstick over lip-gloss is lipstick is more financially convenient for me. Because I am always whipping out the gloss tube whenever I wear it to reapply, I tend to run out much more quickly than I do with a tube of lipstick. I spend more money on lip-gloss than I ever do with my numerous lipsticks.
My favorite lip color of all time remains red. I can wear it no matter if I am a blonde, brunette, or redhead. I cannot get that beautiful, perfect shade of red with lip-gloss. Lipstick has always made me happy in that department.
There's only so much I can say about my lipstick obsession. I cannot imagine life without it. That sounds shallow, I know, but I'm a woman who remembers playing dress up as a girl and experimenting with my mom's makeup kit. Now that I think of it, I still like doing that, only now I have a kit of my own.
