Tips For Saving Energy During The Holidays

During the holidays we don't really think about saving energy, as much as saving money. But that is also an important thing, because not only will it save you money, and but it's better for the environment as well. Here are a few tips, that I have found for saving energy, during the holidays.

#1. Use Energy-Saving Lights

Recently in the last few years, there has been a higher demand for energy saving products. One of which, that is now available to local store, or home improvement store are energy saver Christmas tree lights. Energy saver lights burn longer and clearer, and they usually come with a five year warranty, meaning if they burn out in five years or less, your money will be refunded. These lights will save you money in the long run, because they last longer. There are also outdoor energy-saving light that come in different colors, then of course there are regular lights bulbs, to add that perfect glow to your favorite decorational displays.

#2. Unplug Things
As much as we love our decorations, Christmas tree lights, and outdoor displays, it will save lot more energy, not to mention let the neighbors get a little more sleep, if you unplug those that night, when you go to bed. Of course, unplugging your Christmas tree is also a safety precaution, just in case, one of those trusty Christmas lights start a spark, and needless to say, never try to place candles on, or near your tree, as this will be more of a fire hazard, then an energy saver.

#3. Don't Try To Overdo It
You don't have to have the biggest holiday display in the neighborhood, and don't feel like you have to outdo your neighbor, it will save you more energy, if you put up a simple but unique display. If you do decide to make your whole house a Christmas display, make sure you think about your neighbors, be courteous and turn the lights off at a decent time, so they can get some sleep.

#4. Other Ideas
If you have the resources, have your outdoor lights connected to a solar panel, that way, they will charge all day and they will have enough energy from the sun to run at night, or at the very least, have your lights connected to a timer, and have them switched off whenever the sunrises.

I hope that some of these ideas, will help you save energy, time, and a little bit of sanity, this holiday season. Merry Christmas!
