Movie reviews: 10,000 BC

Movie Review of 10,000 B. C.:

This movie had neat graphics, but too shallow to really care that much about the characters. I was also left wondering throughout the whole movie just what was really going on. I suspect that too much ground was being covered to be very detailed about setting up the scene for viewers.

During the whole movie, it sounded as if that one character's name was Dik-dik. But it turned out to be Tik 'Tik. Can one imagine a child growing up with a name like that? This was a slow starter with a quick finish.

BASIC PLOT:
One group of primitive man is on the verge of change due to dwindling herds of Mammoths. Another, more advanced and possibly alien people, invades and takes hostages for slave labor on some pyramids. Various groups of humans ban together to free their own people from slavery.

There appear to be suggestions about people on earth originating from outer space and that humans lived during the time of dinosaurs. The movie never really lets the viewer know too much. Sometimes this is good. But, overall it just makes it all seem like an impersonal and fast paced tour through a novice writer's book outline.

MY OVERALL TAKE AND RECOMMENDATIONS ON THE MOVIE: The movie seemed to wander a bit at first in an attempt to either give some background info or to get the viewer acquainted with the characters. The mammoth hunt was interesting. The journey was a little flat but it had great graphics.

This movie had a potentially good plot (if it had been finished). Acting wasn't too bad either. But, the movie seemed disjointed and not really fleshed out well. There was humor and adventure. But, I'd swear that the movie was filmed by a Mammoth or a cave man. It was like looking through a window and only seeing bits and pieces at different times.

I wouldn't watch this movie again. It was mostly boring. I rather suspect that they were trying to cover a time-span that was too big for a movie... either that, or it just needed more work.

The main female character, Evolet, is played by Camilla Belle. She could probably double for Lindsay Lohan when Ms. Lohan looked innocent and fresh. Cliff Curtis, from Xena and the latest Die Hard movie, did a good job playing the character Tik'Tik.
Affif Ben Badra played as a warlord. His acting was so good that he almost shamed the movie. Instead, he held the movie together somehow and redeemed the flat, stereo-typical cliches in the movie.
