Writing a journal is easy, and fun. It doesn't require much time, or at least it doesn't feel like a lot of time. Journals are designed to benefit, they should never be tailored to someone else's idea. The journal doesn't have to be for anyone but you. It can lead to great novels when you use the experiences to draw inspiration from.
When a journal is kept of daily life the amount of ideas found will amaze you. When you decide to write your life story all of the facts (at least the ones you want) are in front of you. Editing is the largest part of writing from a journal. There will be some things that you don't want included and some things that you would like to change. Journals that have been kept over years can become the material for numerous books. This means that you can end up with a book deal for a series of books. These can be market as fiction or non-fiction, it's all up to you.
Writing a journal helps to keep the mind active. The simple act of writing causes you to think. It can make you feel more relaxed as you start your day first thing in the morning. When you write at night just prior to bed the mind is free of the worries that could otherwise keep you awake.
Making sure that you write something each day will keep you in the habit of writing. Whether you write something for someone else to read or just for yourself keeping a journal is worth your time. The more that you write the easier it will become for you. Before you know it you will be able to write pages and pages a day; not only that you will begin to gain the ability to edit yourself. That's write you will be able to proof read yourself.
You can expand your knowledge of various subjects and increase your vocabulary as well. When you find a topic that interest you and make a note of it you may find that you have the desire to learn more. That can lead you to write about it and you may find words you have never heard before in your research. When you find those words you will want to know what they actually mean.
The act of research gives you something to write in your journal about. You can get a page or three about what you learned. If you are excited about what you learned then you will write more about it and what else you would like to learn.
Journals are releases for all of your emotions and frustrations. Writing one can even lead you to write more emotional pieces than you normally would when you start writing on touchy subjects.
