If you've been diagnosed with high blood pressure, you probably know the dangers lurking within your midst, but for others it's important to review the information. High blood pressure, also known as hypertension, can cause heart attacks and stroke as well as kidney disease. Many of us may have hypertension and not even know it because we don't always feel any symptoms.
You can find out by taking a blood pressure test at your primary care physician office. Your doctor will answer any questions about the readings and he may want to put you on medication, but it would be wise to explore other options such as home remedies first.
Dr. Norman Kaplan is a noted blood pressure authority at the University of Texas and he advises "non-drug approach as the first line of defense." High blood pressure is largely a lifestyle disease and by making a few changes in diet and exercise, but there are some home remedies to help you too.
Home remedies:
*Ginkgo Biloba expands is better known for increased oxygen to the brain and alertness, but it also expands blood vessels allowing a better flow of blood without the pressure needed to pump it through the body. Ginkgo Biloba is used for treating depression also.
*Guelder Rose is also known as Cramp Bark, Highbush Cranberry, Snowball Bush and Viburnum opulus. It is used primarily to relieve cramps, but it contains a chemical known as viopudial that is believed to relax muscles. It is also believed to reduce nervous tension and help in relaxing the cardiovascular system.
*Passiflora incarnata is commonly known as Passion Flower, but has many names other names and many benefits. it contains three main groups of active chemicals: alkaloids, glycosides and flavonoids and is used for treating anxiety as well as blood pressure. It is used to relax the blood vessels when used for treating high blood pressure. The mild sedative effect may also be helpful.
If blood pressure remains consistently high after using these home remedies, a physician should be consulted to determine if there are other underlying reasons for the high blood pressure.
