Humor: Self reflection

"The Secret Society of Male Menopause" Part 1

Have you ever thought to ask a woman about the story of Adam and Eve and what it means to them? If so, you might hear that God took a rib from Adam and giving it to Eve, gave her the only good part of a man there ever was.

I don't subscribe to this, but I do have a suspicion that that Rib must have been the one connected to the communication bone and when we lost it, we also lost our ability to communicate about normal things in our lives.

About five years ago, I think my life began making some of those oh so subtle and gentle changes. You know! The ones like hair growing on the outside of my ears or the need for reading glasses or the one where you have to go and go and go and go! Sometimes, it doesn't help to water the lawn. These were the kind of changes that I've survived through by drowning a few daily beers and making sure the first section of the daily paper was the Sports section.

Then other changes began to happen! I began wanting what I like to call the finer things in life. You know, the feel of 100% polyester caressing against my skin. Or, how about becoming more emotional and fighting to keep it all under wraps. In the closet and under the carpet! In fact, I didn't even put up a fight when my wife decided to shop for 500 count thread bed linen. To this day, I just act like they are just another pair of sheets, but deep down, I kinda like the feel!

Are these feeling completely hidden? Not really. I've shared some of them with my wife. But, that's as far as it goes. I wouldn't even share these with my mother and she knew a lot about me.

There have been times though when I've had the urge to talk to my male buddies about these changes in my feelings. But, the thought of starting a conversation about bed linen over a beer and nachos makes me feel a bit queasy, shaky and downright uncomfortable. I could take a stab at how they might react, and I could also guess they might be feeling the same ways, or at some time, felt the same, but they're not confessing it to me, nor I to them.

Therefore, my lips are sealed till death do I part.

Well, sort of sealed. As it seems, a lot of personal information I not supposed to know about my guy friends, I get from my wife. It usually begins with, "What do you think about the situation that Bob and Joan are in?"

I stutter a bit and respond with, "You mean the one there having with their car?"
Followed by, "Blah, blah, blah."

"Really? I didn't know anything about that! I thought everything
