Home business ideas for moms

by Patricia Faulhaber

Created on: April 09, 2008

There is a great consumer magazine available at most bookstores and in your grocery isle called Entrepreneur. The magazine is directed at those in business for themselves including big business, small business and home business.

They have many regular features the publish monthly and yearly - including the hot list of startup business ideas.

This year's list (Spring 2008) included many startups that would work well for moms.

1. College-Planning consultants - this is a great business idea. I've worked in higher education and the college application, loan application and scholarship forms are complicated, complex and in so many cases - almost impossible to complete without help. Unfortunately so many college counselors and advisers are seeing too many people a day and have limited time to spend with each. So the idea of a consultant to help with all of the college entrance paperwork is great and well needed in any town - large or small.

2. Reselling any of the many senior products such as hearing aids, foot products, brain games and others.

3. Supply green business services. Entrepreneur reported that 85% of U.S. consumer business companies have active going green initiatives. They also reported that Chris Manning from The Green Chamer said "The demand for [for green business services] but the supply is minimal."

4. Tech consulting is still in demand. Technology based companies - especially the smaller individually owned companies - have a tumultuous history of being hot and not hot. These days tech consulting is needed for everything from upgrading computer systems to networking or mobile technology to web site development.

5. Resell sunglasses - according to Entrepreneur - selling sunglasses is one of the top 15 business ventures for 2008. Brand and style are important issues to consider when looking at selling eye shades.

6. Provide senior services such as health care, financial planning, stress management or other types of services for those retired or facing retirement.

These are just six of the fifteen businesses discussed by the spring report.
