Athlete's foot: Natural cures that work

Athletes foot is itchy, peeling, cracked feet and is not only uncomfortable, but can lead to other foot problems. It can affect anyone of any age. It is a fungus that grows in the damp skin between your toes and on the bottom of your feet. It is not only picked up at the local gym, but local swimming pools, locker rooms, and even your own bathroom.

There are some remedies used by naturalists that not only treat the itch but can actually help you become less susceptible to future episodes.

Soaking in the cure

Soak your feet in a bath of black tea and pau d' arco for relief.

Make an anti fungal soak by mixing seven drops of tea tree oil in four ounces of warm water. Soak for 20 minutes and be sure to dry well before putting on cotton only socks.

Salve for soothing

Mix olive oil and oregano together to form a paste and using a cotton swab, apply directly to the affected area.

Use the tea tree essential oil diluted with olive oil (ensure that you dilute first to avoid further irritation) and swab on affected areas under your socks.

Mix honey and minced garlic together forming a poultice and apply to the area. One tablespoon of honey to one teaspoon of garlic.

Mix flaxseed oil and garlic powder into a paste and apply to the affected area and leave on overnight

Take dried thyme and add it your bath water to alleviate the itch.

From you flower garden gather some calendula flowers and make a salve to heal the cracks. Calendula salve can also be found pre made at most health food stores and can be used up to three times a day.

Patchoulli balm can also be found at health food stores and will relieve the peeling and cracking.

Stop the itching

To control the itch all day make a foot powder with ginger and tea tree oil. It not only stops the itching but has anti fungal properties as well to heal. To make combine 1/2 cup of powdered arrowroot, 1/2 cup cosmetic clay and two tablespoons ginger. Cover and shake well to mix. Add 20 drops of the tea tree essential oil and shake again. The powder will control moisture, stop the itch, and alleviate the fungus from growing.
