Anime. Obsession, Art, Entertainment and fantasy. Just a few words that can be used to describe Anime. In word association I would counteract Anime with Insomnia. Insomnia is a big part of my life because of the new found obsession with anime and manga.
Deep down I have a feeling as though the fantasy side of anime has basically replaced the fairy tales of old and have introduced our children to a whole new world of fantasy and dreams. Long gone are the days that Mighty Mouse, Roger Ramjet and Atom Ant are the hero's on the TV that children tuned into religiously each day before and after school.
I still remember when I was almost 9 months pregnant, kicking back watching an Anime marathon on the cartoon network. It was the One Piece Marathon - Tour of Bootay. I can safely say to my son when he is old enough to understand that up until an hour because he was so unexpectedly brought into this world by the doctor, that I was quiet happily kicking back enjoying the toons, as he kicked the living daylights out of my bladder. He will know how annoying it is to have to miss out on parts of episodes because I had to keep getting up and going to the loo.
I have been a fan of anime for quite some time. But it wasn't until early last year that I became obsessed with it. On the SCI FI channel I discovered a cartoon called Samurai X, the story of a wandering samurai with a sketch blood filled past existence. He would forever be known as a slasher and have the eager challengers wanting to fight. Then I heard about a new show coming to the Cartoon Network, MAR Marchens Awakens Romance. If I didn't get to watch it at the viable hour of 6pm, I knew it would be repeated again at 10:30pm. Because of family duties, making sure they were fed and ready for bed the only time I really got to sit and enjoy was the later time.
The next thing I knew INUYASHA came on followed be Full Metal Alchemist. That was it I became hooked. The adventures of a half demon and the journey of an alchemist and his brother trapped in a suit of armour. The sleep began to decrease, it was like a soap junkie and I was hooked. Bleach, the tales of soul reapers. Trinity Blade, Vampire's in the Vatican. Eureka 7, (ok I wasn't into this one to much but because it was on I watched it). Witch Hunter Robin, the story of a society seeking out witches and ceasing their hereditary powers. The list goes on and on.
Everyone knew not to come near me during my self indulgent hours. My mother started to stay at my house to
