Movie theater distractions

I have to endure a lot more movie theater distractions than most people. I am disabled and use a wheelchair, which causes a lot more situations in which I can be distracted. I will start with the usual distractions and then discuss some of the specific distractions unique to people in wheelchairs.

The number one movie theater distraction is all of the talking that goes on by the other moviegoers. I can understand people talking before and after the movie but not during.

Yes, I know that people laugh and giggle at the funny parts, cringed at the gory parts, and make other sounds at different times during the movie. This is understandable and probably is the point of the movie which the director meant to happen. This is all fine and dandy with me but this is not the sound that I am talking about. I am talking about people that make inappropriate and annoying comments throughout the movie. This is really annoying to me.

I find it especially annoying when people laugh at the wrong moments during the movie. During some gory or sad parts, I do not believe that it is funny. Seeing somebody get killed is not funny. I guess that some people are easily amused. I just find it extra annoying because it ruins the whole atmosphere of the scene as it was intended.

I wish there was a way to mute out people who do not seem to know when to talk and when not to talk.

I have never had the problem might I have heard other people tell me that other movie patrons bring cell phones into the theater room. They will let their phones ring and they will talk on the phone during the movie.

Most movie theaters tell moviegoers to not bring cell phones into the theater and not to talk on them during the movie. Since cell phones are easy to hide, most people do not heed the warnings and bring them anyways. I am sure that the bigger theaters in the big cities are stricter about it and ushers will tell people to put their cell phones away or leave. The theaters in this town are not that big and, while they do have signs posted about cell phones, I never see ushers enforcing the rules.

Another problem is bringing small children and babies into the movie theater. I have nothing against all children and babies but they do not belong in movie theaters. We pay good money to see movies and we deserve to be able to watch movies without hearing children crying or giggling throughout the movie. Parents should know better. If they want to see the movie, they should leave their children at home with a babysitter.
