What is the best form of travel?

Traveling has become much more difficult over the past few decades for a number of reasons. It seems that now there is potential life-threatening danger lurking in every major airport in the world. In many ways, Muslim extremists have won the battle over Western civilization and have accomplished what they set out to do with their waves of terrorism.

Personally, I know the reason I do not venture out on my much-loved November ritual of a Caribbean cruise is because of the backlash of terrorism. Sure the airports are much safer now, but despite that, there always seems to be an uneasy mood in airports and on the planes themselves these days. Also, it is just taking so long to get to where you want to go and the never-ending search of ones person and luggage just makes traveling by plane less and less appealing.

Add the rising cost of fuel into the equation and even the thrill of the long car or bus trip is getting far too expensive. There are also many people who are becoming more and more aware of the impact gas engines are having on the environment and that also makes them more hesitant to travel using this mode of transportation.

To me, the best form of travel right now is the bicycle. Even just riding a bike to work everyday is accomplishing so many positive goals. First of all, you are not polluting the environment, you are saving money, and best of all, you are doing wonders for your fitness level and peace of mind. Most of the stress of a normal workday in the big city comes from fighting the traffic to get to and from work.

A biking holiday is just as positive and is a great way to enjoy the fresh air and really see your surroundings. Something you can't really do flying at 20,000 feet or driving at 80 miles an hour.

Just think of the sights you would see if you planned a trip by bike across your country? Regardless if you live in the United States, Canada, France, or any other county in the world, chances are you will have a better understanding and appreciation for your country after traveling it by bike.

You could probably travel for a month by bike and still not spend what it would cost you to travel for a week by car. Besides that, a bike trip also gives you the added benefit of keeping you fit and healthy.

In this day and age, I feel that more and more people are realizing the many benefits of spending more time on their bikes and less in planes and cars.
