Overview of the Soldier Field in Chicago
The Solider Field Home of the Chicago Bears opened up way back in October 9, 1924! Since that time the Soldier Field has become the home of the Chicago Bears! The Soldier Field went through a huge renovation that was completed in 2003!
If you live in the Chicago area you can get a special pass that allows you to park close to the museum. Otherwise, you can park at the South Lot or Waldron Deck. Also, there is another parking structure on East Monroe and Millennium near Columbus. From there you can also hop on the free shuttle or pay the $40 flat rate fee in the parking structure.
The Soldier Field was originally built to give tribute and honor to the World War I Veterans. There is a special memorial wall for the Veterans at the north side of the stadium. In addition to this memorial there are also historic colonnades. The historic colonnades are one of the favorite features of the Soldier Field; the colonnades are open to the public all year round.
The colonnades are what brought so much drama when in 2001 the Chicago Park District wanted to change the look of the stadium. Many people were not for this change because it would takeaway from the originality of the building. The general public and members to the Soldier Field wanted to see the Greco Roman design preserved and that stripping that away would strip away much of the meaning from the museum. However, that did not stop the Chicago Park District. They went on with the plans they had set and renovated the building. To appease some of the angry folks the Chicago Park District left the main facade and the entrance gates the same. To make the cynics even more upset, the Chicago Park District actually removed the Soldier Park from the National Register of Historic Places.
