Sibling Rivalry has been around since the beginning of Mankind.(Everybody knows the story of Cain and Abel)and it will always be there, it is as normal as the sun rising in the east and setting in the west and let us also treat it that way.
We hear things like siblings carrying their rivalry into adulthood. Well! there are ways to check that when they are young. The way I have been brought up and the countless others in my culture is that, we defer to our older siblings and they in turn are responsible for our well being while playing with each other. The younger one is actually encouraged to look up to the older one for advice or help and the older one is deemed responsible by the parent for the younger siblings actions to some extent. That way the mom/care giver's stress is somewhat relieved for some time and a sense of duty is inculcated in both the siblings. It has worked fine for generations and this is how I am raising my kids. Hardly anyone that I know of in my culture has carried sibling rivalry into adulthood.
