Catch phrases to excuse shortcomings

A common phrase to excuse short-comings comes from the southern population of the United States and is used in all manner of situations. The phrase "Bless his/her heart" often follows some type of insult and is used to take the edge off of the insult to spare the feelings of the insulted. Some real world examples of how to use this phrase effectively are as follows:

For a woman who married poorly - She knew he was no good when she married him, bless her heart.
For an ugly baby - What a precious baby, bless it's heart.
For a person with a substance abuse problem - You know he/she drinks way too much, bless his/her heart.
For a bad hair day - You look like you've been through a tornado, bless your heart.

The Bless His/Her Heart catch phrase has the luxury of being used while talking either about someone, or directly to the person being insulted. The beauty of this is when the phrase is added on to practically any comment, the speaker is pretty much guaranteed the insulted will not take serious offense from the comment and the speaker will be forgiven almost immediately.
