How to teach your children to respect you

Respect is a very important little word. It is not only important to learn about others but about respect for yourself in life. Teaching our children to respect us generally comes down to one very important factor, possibly one of the most important factors today, is the decision to respect you.

To allow your child to understand that respect is gained through good and decent behavioral practices. Children are a product of the environment and atmosphere they live in. Examine your own behavioral patterns and see if you can analyze little things you do, maybe your child is noticing these patterns.

The whole process of raising a child is completely dependent on what they are viewing and taking into their new fresh little brains to try to understand. Children respect people when they learn boundaries. These do not have to be extreme, yet they should be followed. You must yourself believe these rules are best for the child, and that it is given with best intention.

Why do you think everybody loves their mum and dads more times than not. Well, it is due to the fact, that mums and dads generally guide them in the right direction. Even if they want to test the waters outside the home environment, children generally and by far know what is right and what is wrong, if their parents are doing the right thing.

The old ditto of do what I say, yet do not do what I do, does not teach respect. Every child should be taught; there are consequences for certain types of behavior in the world today. You would not tell your child not to steal if you were a thief yourself. It is obvious that this philosophy just makes sense. A parent does not have to be an ogre to make the child respect them.

If children know and learn from an early age what is acceptable whilst interacting with others, they will generally follow in this fashion. Once a child is of school age, they will interact with many different children, and form relationships. If a child has not learned to respect the wishes of the parent by this age, you may find difficulties when they reach their teens.

Respect is gained in this world. The gaining of respect comes with giving respect to others. Children need to know that those older than them have the knowledge and wisdom of knowing what is right and what is wrong in this world.

Teach your child to respect themselves and others and mostly their mum and dad and grandparents. For are these are the people in their life who will mold them. When it comes time for you to leave this world, the handing down of a moral and decent understanding of interactions with others is a great value.
