We have all probably done it at one point is our lives. We have tried to make a phone call or tried to write and send a text message while driving. We all know that is it dangerous, but we do it anyway. However, every time that we engage in such behavior, we run the risk of getting into a car accident or worse. Therefore, although the cellular phone is an extremely valuable tool that makes the lives of many people more productive and more convenient, there should be a law that makes hands free devices mandatory while driving.

The fact is that there are many states that do require that hands free devices be used for cellular phones when driving. As such, the rest of the states that do not have such a law should follow suit in order to prevent future car accidents that result from inattentive drivers using their cellular phones.

One argument for not requiring such a device is that such devices cost additional money. The problem with this argument is that it is not realistic. Although it is true that a hands free device does cost money, these devices are not expensive. In fact, you could easily pick one up for under $20. Therefore, even though this device costs money, it is a nominal cost that becomes irrelevant when compared to the positive effect such a device would have on the safety of drivers while using a cellular phone. The point is, if you can afford to buy a cellular phone, you can definitely afford to buy a hands free device.

Another advantage of hands free devices is that you do not have to take your eyes of the road when using them. Most of these devices have a quick press button that you can utilize in order to answer your phone, answer your call waiting, and even make phone calls. Therefore, while your eyes remain on the road, you can still fully utilize your cellular phone. If you are not comfortable using one of these "quick press" buttons, many hands free devices are voice activated. Therefore, you can make phone calls, answer your phone, and hang up your phone all with the sound of your voice.

The point is, because the technology exists, because it is inexpensive, and because utilizing such technology would make our roads safer, hand free technology should be mandatory when driving.
