Plantar warts: Symptoms and treatment

Plantar warts most often appear on the bottom of your feet.

To get them, you probably walked barefoot in a public area, such as the concrete surface of an outdoor shower, the tiled area near a swimming pool or even on a wet indoor-outdoor carpet. Maybe your feet had also been sweaty, dirty and soaked for some time. After awhile, you'll notice a distinct bump that can swell to the size of a quarter. It becomes harder over time, almost like walking on a sharp pebble, and looks gray, like some dead skin. Small black dots begin to appear within the bump. They almost look like kiwi seeds.

The seeds are actually tiny blood capillaries that have possibly burst and clotted near the skin's surface. The human papillomavirus had entered through a tiny cut or abrasion in the sole of your foot. This infection typically appears where your foot contacts the ground, at the several pressure points where walking normally occurs. It thrives in moist, hot and dirty environments. And, oddly enough, since everyone's immune system is different, some people will get infected by the virus and some won't.

It's best to treat the wart as soon as you notice it. It may take some time to eliminate, using various treatments, and in the meantime, it may spread to other locations on your feet, or, to other people. These warts are remarkably stubborn and resistant to treatment.

Initial treatment typically involves trimming away the affected skin. At first, since it appears to just be a common callus, most people would use a nail file, emery board, pumice stone or toenail clipper to remove it, and to be honest, sometimes without complete attention to detail about where the parings end up, and, also, what may happen if they walk around barefoot. This is when the virus causes the most trouble, when people will unknowingly spread minute amounts of infected dead skin and blood across various floor surfaces.

At the point when you notice that the wart reappears, growing larger and changing color, you'll probably think that this is no ordinary wart. You'll probably resort to using over-the-counter popular treatments. They contain a solution of about 20-40 percent salicyclic acid that can be applied repeatedly without causing intense pain to any nearby, unaffected skin. The acid is applied to the wart area and the dead skin is shaved away. This usually makes the wart disappear in about a month.

During this time, you may also want to consult with your doctor because unusual growths have a very slight chance
