The negative effects of family politics

How do you deal with family politics? How do you even define 'Family Politics'? I would say it involves conflicting relationships among family members whereby they disagree with each other; are at loggerheads with one another; or have ulterior motives to hurt each other so that they can get what they want.

Here are some factors that lead to family politics:

- Gossip

A gossip monger is spreading gossip about someone. This creates tension and causes people to dislike each other. The truth gets twisted and turned so nobody gets the full story.

- Money

There is a spendthrift who is spending money like water or there is a gambler who is gambling and losing money. Falling in debt, they borrow money from the bank or from other people; they cheat other people of their money.

When it comes to the family inheritance, somebody wants a bigger share so they sue the other family members, or everyone thinks that they deserve the biggest share so they fight with each other.

- Adultery

There is a playboy or womanizer who is fooling around with another woman. His wife is heartbroken. She contracts a sexually transmitted disease or infection. If children are involved, they are affected by a bad father figure or are lacking male parental guidance.

There is a woman who is having an affair with a married man. She believes that he will leave his wife to be with her. She thinks that she can be a third party since he is "not getting on with his wife."

Having a family is suppose to be a great thing. You love, care for and support each other. You stand by each other during tough moments. When you see that other people are from dysfunctional homes, broken homes or less fortunate homes, you appreciate your family more. However, no family is perfect because human beings are faulty people. What makes it worse is when somebody or some people are creating problems or constantly giving problems.

If people had not engaged in gossip, spending too much money, gambling, borrowing money, cheating people, and infidelity, there would be a lot less trouble. Everyone would be able to live in peace and trust each other.
