Tips for a successful garage sale

Tips for a Successful Garage Sale

What is the most important factor in your quest to have a garage sale, is it money, to get rid of unwanted items around your house and garage? While you are getting ready to set up your garage sale there are a few things you should keep in mind if you want to clear your table of the items to be sold.

Make sure that the sale items are relatively clean; no one wants to rummage through stuff that is dirty. They will not even look at cloths that are stained and yellowing from hanging in your closet for years. You will draw a bigger crowd if they notice that everything has been cleaned up and are ready for use when the buy their items.

Keep all your items up off of the floor/ground, they will get noticed faster therefore they will probably sell faster. People do not want to have to bend down to look at anything that is lying on the floor/ground, these items will not be as clean as the ones that are on a table or bench in your garage, if you are having your sale in the garage make sure the lighting is good so people will be able to see just what they are looking at to make sure the items are worth buying.

People who go to garage sales are all looking for a great bargain; they want good items at a low cost. Some people will even try and talk you down in price even though the price is low, they will always try to get you to lower in more. If you have someone that wants to talk you down in your price and you think that you can get the price you are asking, ask them to come back around the time you are going to close the sale for the day. If the item does not sell, the other person may come back and you can lower the price just a bit. Sometimes all you have to lower your price by .50 to a $1 and your customer will be happy, it is not the amount of money they save; it's the accomplishment of talking you down that they are looking for.

Make sure you have fun while carrying on your garage sale like a professional. Having a garage sale does not have to be a lot of work, if you enjoy having these garage sales yearly, you can meet a lot of new people and have a lot of fun joking around while at the same time, you are making a little money.

Make sure that you have somewhere that you can take all the items that do not sell to. There are lots of places that will take this stuff off of your hands for nothing, just so they can reuse or resell to someone else. There are also lots of places where they could use your old, unwanted items. Places like the Women in Crisis and Halfway Houses are a great place to send unwanted household items, these places us these items to help the less fortunate to set up a home when the find one.
