Poetry: Family ties

Inner me Inner you

I thought it was the outer you, that use to comb my hair
When it really was the inner you showing ,that you care
I thought it was the outer you that bandaged up my knee
When it really was the inner you saying you loved me

I thought it was the outer you, that scorned me in my youth
When it really was the inner you, showing me the truth
I thought it was the outer you that caressed me with your hands
When it really was the inner you, saying you understand

I thought it was the outer you, that cried when I went away
When it really was the inner you saying I'll miss you every day
I thought it was the outer you I loved with all my heart
When it really was the inner you, I loved from the start

Only now I realize as before I didn't see
That the inner part of you is now an inner part of me
I guess it's part of living, as growing has its pain
It's nice to know that the inner me may some day do the same

Everlasting life ,maybe that's what it's meant to be
The outer yous passing the inner yous
To all the inner Me's
Eve
