Severe itchiness, flaking, redness and pain between the toes and on the soles of the feet are all symptoms of Athletes Foot. It can lead to severe cracks that make it painful to touch and walk.
Athlete's foot is very common and it's highly contagious. This fungal infection is spread through gymnasiums, swimming and sports club communal showers and is then later to brought home to be shared and infected with the rest of the family. It can also develop because of foot wear that doesn't allow the feet to breath, creating a damp environment that is perfect for fungi to thrive.
There are many over-the-counter creams available for this condition but may not relieve the symptoms immediately. With the help of some home remedies and prevention, the condition will be gone quicker and will also teach you good habits to maintain the health of your feet in the future.
Here are some natural remedies to help ease the discomfort of athlete's foot.
TALCUM POWDER
From your local supermarket or chemist, purchase a good quality talcum powder that contains cornstarch. A good talc absorbs excess liquid from the area and allows it to remain dry. After showering or walking with socks and sports shoes, always put your talcum powder on between the toes and on the soles of the feet.
Prior to using your sports shoes, smother the inside with talc as well to absorb sweat caused by feet in the small confined area.
AROMATHERAPY
Using essential oils has been found to be very effective in treating the symptoms and healing of the area caused by athlete's foot. Always ensure your essential oils are 100% pure oils and use according to directions.
~Tea Tree Oil
Place two to three drops of tea tree essential oil in your shoes at least twice a week. Tea Tree is renown for it's antibacterial and disinfectant properties and has the ability to kill the fungi that causes athlete's foot.
~Foot Soak
Immediately before or after showering, either in the morning or evening place some hot water in a tub large enough for your feet to soak.
For relief of the pain and itchiness associated with this condition, place three drops of Geranium, four drops of Tea Tree and three drops of Lavender into the water. Soak your feet for about five to ten minutes each time.
Another blend that is effective in treating this condition is by using two drops of Myrrh, four drops of Lavender and four drops of Lemon Essential Oil.
