Teens are always up to date when we talk about computers and hi-tech. They seem to have an incredible intelligence to learn all the stuff immediately! They know all about the latest gadgets such as iPhone and they might even know how to crack it. They are connected to their friends all the time and this means they are always fresh when you consider their knowledge freshness. What can you do to be connected with them?
This is something like a competition. You must be updated all the time about the latest Google tools or feature or the latest Apple release otherwise the teen will be a step ahead from you. I recommend you to join some RSS computer magazines to get all the latest news about computer in your Google Reader! You will get the news as soon as they happen. Now you can compete with teens.
To connect them you must also speak their language. Make sure you learn some computer vocabulary specially the most recent one such as Digging a webpage. By the way, this means giving a good score on a page using Digg thumb!
Email is absolutely important to keep in touch with them Most teens dont like instant messaging with people they feel a little distant so they prefer to use email to keep a track of the conversation.
Once you start to be closer to them, they might give you their instant messaging address. Don't bother them writing something like "Hi! How are you today?" They use instant messaging for specific and fast conversations, not to something so vulgar and vague.
Myspace is indispensable if you want full connection. Everyone has his own My Space page right now. Put a photo of you and about your latest life accomplishments such as praticing a new sport or buying a new car. Don't worry about security! You can make private galleries and choose carefully who has access to it!
The last thing you need is to keep always fresh all the time. Get the latest gadgets and talk about it. The most interesting conversation topic is how good the new gadget is and what can be improved! Try talking about it with a teen and see how enthusiastic he will be about it!
