I afraid we are all exploited by our employers we just may not always know this is the case.
People think about the old days where people made very little money worked long hours and had
little if any benefits. Unions have helped to even the playing field quite a bit. People are making more money than ever, many companies are giving benefits and working conditions have improved immensely but don't be fool we are still being exploited and here is how.
We are working more hours than ever. The 8 hour work days seems to be a thing of the past. Companies encourage is to work more to earn more. Overtime may seem great until you see how much you earn after taxes. Employers even penalize you if you don't want to work longer hours, they don't do it directly for e.g. You are applying for a job have all the qualifications but don't get the job. They tell you they decided to go with someone else what you didn't know was that they hired the other less qualified person because they are able to work 12 hour shifts 7 days a week.Employers seem to want more from us and not just hours but days as well.
Monday to Friday isn't that suppose to be the work week? I wish employers now want us to work Saturdays and even Sundays. Employers claim we need you to be flexible and tell you we only need you for "some weekends" When you hear some weekends run for the hills that usu sally means
more than some and if companies can get away with giving you more they will. I can understand
lawyers, doctors, police, fireman and other lifesaving essential jobs needing workers on the weekends but now it is getting ridiculous. We are not totally innocent though. In this instant gratification society we live in companies have to meet are demand and this can force them to be opened during the weekends in order to meet demand. 24/7 call centers are in business for a reason. I talked earlier about the growing benefits we have but not all is good in job land
Many companies offer benefits but some still do not. If you don't make a lot you may not be able to afford the benefits. I was in a job making a small wage after 3 months I got benefits which I thought was great. Unfortunately because I was not making that much the 30.00 I had to pay for my benefits was too much for me so I had to cancel them You ever notice how long benefit packages are. It could days to go through the whole thing. This is no accident although many packages are good a careful eye or lawyer can tell you you don't get everything
and there can
