Sunshine, surf, swimming, sightseeing - these words give an alliterative summary of the ideal place to choose for your next vacation - Tamarindo, Costa Rica. Whether you are vacationing on a budget or you have plenty of money to spend, Tamarindo has something for you. The wealth of activities, restaurants and different types of accommodations available is the reason that Tamarindo has risen to the forefront as a popular Costa Rica destination.

While most people have the beach and the warmth of the sunshine in mind, there are so many activities you can engage in, it is likely that you will learn a new skill or develop a new taste while you are here. Take a horseback ride into the jungle to see howler monkeys and learn of the culture of the Guanacoste Coast. Visit the small villages along oxcart trails and feel as if you are a cowboy.

The avid sport fisherperson will really shine on a visit to Tamarindo. The waters in this area are known for the wealth of marine life, especially the big ones, such as wahoo, tuna, and marlin. You will be able to return home with stories of the big one that didn't get away and have the pictures to prove it. There is a strict catch and release program follwed by the sportfishing charter companies, which is why you won't be able to bring the fish home with you.

Whether you a re a novice surfer or a pro, the waves here will certainly catch your attention. Take lessons to learn how to surf properly or improve your technique. Ride the waves off the beach for the most exhilarating experience of your life. You can also take a sailing tour as part of a group or charter a boat for a private tour to see the areas around the coast. Snorkeling to see the many types of life that live under the sea is an enjoyable experience, and of course, you can always lie around on the beach, have a swim and soak up the rays.

Take the rough dirt road from Tamarindo to the Parque Nacional Marino las Baulas . Here you will see the leatherback turtles that come to nest from November to April. In order to see the turtles, you will have to take the night tour with a certified guide. There is also a turtle museum here that will prove to be an educational experience for all. With the more than 174 species of birds, this park also tops the list as the best location for birdwatching.

Stroll through the town and drink in the Tico culture. Stop at the outdoor vegetable markets or enjoy a day of pampering at one of the spas. Taste the traditional foods of Costa Rica in the restaurants or stick to the tried and true because there are many different cuisines served at the tables. Browse the exhibits at the art galleries, purchase some pottery to take home with you and enjoy the delectable tastes of the pastries you can buy at one of the many bakeries.

With the many activities Tamarindo offers, there is no doubt you will want to make plans to return to experience them all again or try something new.
