My winter's morning ritual begins inside
At five o'clock, sheets and blankets wrapped tight
Moonlight peeking through the folds of the curtains
Uncompromising chills hasten my transit
From bedsheets to bathroom
Hot water and heat lamps
Layers of wool, applied in anticipation
The cool steel of the door handle
Betrays what is waiting outside
An icy breeze meets my face and freezes
The small amount of water and cream
Left by the razor, only minutes before
Walking quickly, across the lawn
Footprints left in the thick frost
I breathe deeper with every step
The fresh air of the new day
