Deciding if a degree in computers or information technology is right for you

Do you like computers? If the answer is yes then the degree is right for you. If the answer is not, then do not get a degree.

Working with computers requires you to know a lot about them and for that you need to like them otherwise you will not be the best in your field.

Why is that? There are new programs everyday and new pieces of hardware everyday too. We live in a world of too much competition. If you do not like computers, how can you compete with somebody that loves his job and likes to learn even more about it. There is no way you can compete with that because of one very simple human trait. If you do not like what you do but you have to do it, you stop as soon as you can. On the other side of the river if there is there one person that likes the work, he will work countless hours without ever getting tired and will always be one step further.

Another reason is because either you fake and you put a fake smile on your face while working, or you go to work with an expression that most people don't enjoy looking at. your choice.

Also keep in mind that you must be connected to the digital world all the time. E-mail always active, sometimes instant messaging too and ready to upgrade or making instant updates when needed. After all business is a war, just not fought with weapons but with money instead. Are you a might knight that everyone is afraid of? Or are you just a nice soldier that retreats as soon as he can?

Finally if you do not like what you do, you will waste at least eight hours of your life doing something you hate. How does it feel? No good at all.

Remember that competition will always be one step further. You will have a hard time finding a job or keeping the current job because they can do things you can't because they like to learn more about computers and they make cool experiments you just can't look at.

I don't know about you but I would never trust my computer or Information Technology department to a person that doesn't like computers because he or she would leave the job as soon as he or she could.

Computers are more personal than ever, they are just not another machine you need to repair. Some people seem to have strong feelings for their computers.
