How to attract more visitors to your website

Creating a website for any business is a fantastic way to inform the public about your company, as well as get your name out both locally and globally. But a website is worthless if you're the only one who ever sees it.

Proper website utilization requires the owner to think of ways to drive traffic to the site. Something needs to bring people in, and make them read what's there. With the billions of websites already out there, it's easy to get buried in all the muck.

SEO -

The most popular, and most effective, way to draw traffic to your website is to practice "Search Engine Optimization", also known as SEO. SEO is a way to assure your site comes up in any search engines when someone enters particular search words.

These search words, referred to as keywords, are what a search engine looks for to determine what sites are listed. If you are selling farming equipment, make sure to include popular keywords on your site, like tractor, sprinklers, thrashers, and such. Then if someone out there searches for tractors, you're site is more likely to come up.

However, search engines are not as simple as a single keyword. Search engines, like "Google" have an entire formula for what makes a site #1 on the list, and what makes a site 30,000 on the list. This is determined by keyword density.

"Google" searches pages with the word tractor, and favors sites or articles with a 5-7% keyword density. This works out to about 1 keyword in every fifty words. Though the math may seem off, it does equal 5-7% density to search engines. If the keyword density is more than that, the search engine will consider it spam. If the keyword density is less than that, the search engine considers it irrelevant.

Using this technique can help draw "cold customers" to your site. A cold customer is someone who is looking for a keyword, but most likely has never heard of your site. That's why making sure they find it with a search engine can be so helpful. Creating sales copy and articles using SEO makes your site more user friendly, and easier to find.

OTHER -

Other tactics for drawing traffic to your website are basic, traditional methods just adjusted for online use. Advertising is still a powerful aid, and placing clever ads on the right lists or sites can also help get you noticed.

Offering extra information that will draw in people doing research helps get your site read and your company's name noticed. Informative articles about equipment, proper use and maintenance, or general tips provide extra incentive for customers to scan your site instead of someone else's. If they come for the extra information you offer, they might just stay to make a purchase.

User friendly website designs are important to get your website read by the traffic you draw. The site should be easy to search, easy to read, and easy to use. Articles or information should be broken up into bite sized sections for quick scanning. Users don't want to read ten pages of text to find the one sentence they were looking for.

In the end, driving traffic to your website has very similar techniques to driving traffic to your store. Both places need to be helpful, informative, and well designed. They should be customer friendly and just a little bit of fun.
