Saddam Hussein is guilty of massacring thousands of Kurds in Northern Iraq, and just as many Islamic terrorists; to remove the threat posed to his secular state. He should be put to death just as much as Osama Bin Ladin. BUT there is one major difference between them: Bin Ladin wishes to impose Islamic extremism on the world, and return it to a Scientific Dark Age. Saddam was produced by the West to control their oil supplies and to further Western interests in the region.
The only reason Saddam Hussein was removed was to guarantee control over a oil producing state, as Saudi Arabia, a failing monarchy, is beginning to fragment. Which country is easier to invade: Iraq or Sauda Arabia? The answer is clearly Iraq. I put it to anyone who disagrees to view the two faced relationship between the West and the Middle East since the 1900's; one face a disapproving stance on the dictatorship style governments taken by most countries in the Middle East. This is presented to the Western public. The other face is an unknown, oil dealing relationship; which takes place behind closed doors.
Yes, Saddam was a brutal dictator who murdered thousands with no remorse. But he has murdered no more than China has murdered Tibetans; and the West does not brand China an enemy. It is all a game of chess, with Saddam the pawn and the West (along with the Russians) controlling both ends of the board.

Well this issue is largely academic now that the man is dead. I argue this is justice for the evil committed at his behest.
