Eating healthily as a student is difficult to manage sometimes, or at least it appears to be. You are constantly pressed for time, and have to fit seeing friends, completing assignments and looking after yourself all into a short space of time. You get the feeling that you never have enough time or money to eat healthily, and it is always too easy to switch to an unhealthy diet of take away meals, ready meals and junk food.
Students regularly fall into the trap of eating convenient food while trying to complete assignments; this is especially true near the end of each semester when the deadlines loom on the horizon, and when time seems to speed up annoyingly despite your best attempts to get work done quickly.
Turning to take away meals and ready meals is something that all students are familiar with. We are always strapped for time and somewhere in our heads the idea of healthy eating is associated with cooking for hours or finding the time to exercise. This is untrue. It is perfectly possible to eat healthily and keep up with the hectic lifestyle of the typical student. All you need to do is have a careful think about what you will be eating and how you will be preparing it.
Healthy eating does not have to be hard, and despite common misconceptions, it does not have to be expensive or a chore either. Simple meals such as stews and casseroles are ideal to make while studying furiously. You can prepare the ingredients quickly, stick them into a pan or casserole dish, and then leave it in the oven for a while. The preparation part will give you a break from computers and your work, giving you something to do which should calm down your mind for a bit. Then while the meal is in the oven you can set a timer and go back to your work until it is done. Most good casseroles and stews taste better when left in the oven for around two to four hours, that's plenty of time to write an essay or finish up some work.
Healthy eating is simple and easy to achieve. Think about what you eat for snacks and replace it with fruit and nuts. Giving yourself a break from work is vital in order for you to work more efficiently. If you work too hard your brain will not work as well and you will get stuck more easily on questions which seemed easy before.
Healthy eating does not have to be hard. Take responsibility for how you eat and think about what you can do to improve your lifestyle! It is up to you to make that choice.
