Bedding may seem like an odd sort of thing to sort out while you are college or university but is something you should be thinking about as it will affect the way you sleep and well you sleep. This is one of the things you should have sorted out while packing to leave home and enter the realms of the university's halls of residence or a college's dormitories.
Choosing the right sort of bedding can be the difference between a comfortable, healthy night's sleep and a night spent tossing and turning, trying to find a comfortable position to sleep in.
Most students do not have the liberty to choose what sort of mattress they sleep on, ideally you want to try and get a soft mattress or one that is specifically designed to be nice to your back. When looking at a house to live in for your second year, make sure you test out the mattresses on the bed. It may sound silly but you need to know then if the beds are comfortable otherwise you will move in and find that it is impossible to sleep there at all. If you can afford it I would strongly recommend buying your own mattress if the one you end up with is particularly bad.
If you can't do anything about the mattress then your only other option is to make sure that at least your duvet and pillows are lovely and comfortable to sleep on. Pillows are very important for a good night's sleep as they support your neck and head while you sleep. If you sleep on pillows that are not comfy at all or that force you to sleep at an odd angle, you could wake up each morning with bad pains in your neck and possible headaches. Neither of which are pleasant. Ideally you want to get the best pillows you can afford to buy.
Duvet covers are essential for a good night's sleep. If the duvet is too thin in the winter you will freeze, if it is too thick in the summer you will over heat. You want to check to see how lumpy a duvet is as well, as those sorts of duvets are never nice to sleep with. Buy the best you can, ideally the right sort of thickness for the seasons you will be sleeping through at university or college.
Lastly, the covers for the duvet, pillows and mattress need to be of a good quality too. What would be the point of buying a snugly duvet if the cover for it is scratchy and uncomfortable? Covers can be brought from a variety of places and good quality ones can turn out to be quite cheap if you look around for bargains.
The key is to ensure your bed is as comfortable as possible. Sleepless nights while having to cope with the stress of completing work and looking after yourself do not help you stay healthy. Make sure you get enough sleep each night and have comfortable bedding! You'll definitely notice and difference and appreciate a good night's sleep.
