Odd jobs for college students

Finding a job while studying can be a daunting task, especially carrying out the actual "doing" part of the job. Students will always be strapped for time and it is hard to find a job to do which will be flexible enough to carry out while you complete your studies. For most students, working over the summer in a full time job is the only way to raise enough funds to be studying in the first place, while others take up jobs during their semesters and study when not at work.

There are plenty of options available to you as student which allow you to earn money while studying or over the summer.

Ideal jobs to do while studying or over the summer are;

Part time shop work is a good one to do while studying as usually you can sort out work hours once you know when you will be in lectures or busy with social events, then you can work out when you can do the job in the time remaining.
Working in a pub or restaurant is another popular one, as sometimes you will be paid cash in hand, which is especially useful as it means you don't have to wait for the money to go into your bank and can instead deposit what you need to yourself.
Doing agency work part time is also another option but can be quite random. Some weeks you may find you have more work than others, but the plus point here is you will be paid weekly and you will have more control over when you work and for how long. If you are contracted for part time work in a pub or shop then you have to work the hours you say you will. Whereas with an agency you will be able to say what hours you can do each week and they will try and find a job that suits your needs.

Some other jobs that you can do are things such as;

Babysitting for people you know. You could advertise your services in the local shop or in a newspaper to gain recognition. This one is best done from home rather than from halls of residence, so that your parents can help you find good people to baby-sit for.
You could do gardening for the neighbours if you enjoy doing that sort of thing.
Cleaning is also a good one to do as you could clean at random times and are paid cash in hand.
You could set up your own crafts business. A lot of good artists and crafts people tend to set up commissions online so that people can contact them and ask for paintings or crafted items etc.

The list is never-ending. The only thing to stop you from trying out all these odd jobs is yourself. You need to put the effort in to finding work and finding inventive ways of making money. Good luck!
