How to improve your self-confidence skills

There are many things an individual can do to improve their self-confidence. These include knowing about one's strengths and weaknesses and putting more attention on the strengths, trusting one's knowledge, and not letting anyone stop them from reaching their goals.

What is self-confidence? It is the ability to trust in one's ability to accomplish a task. In order to have confidence in oneself, it is necessary to know one's strengths and weaknesses. A person generally knows what they are good at and what they are comfortable with. If you spend more time doing the things you are good at, you will increase your confidence. While it is not always possible to do only the things you are good at, if you do it often enough, you can feel better about your ability to do almost anything.

When you are a student, you know what subjects you are good at and those you are not so you can spend more time working on the ones you are good at. If you are required to do classes in areas you are weak in, you can get help from other people, whether it be a paid or volunteer tutor, a classmate who is good in the subject, or the teacher. If you spend enough time on the subject, eventually you will get through it and that will build your confidence. Not all students are able to be in the top of their class, but even a weak student can be confident of his or her ability if they have worked hard and succeeded.

It is possible for a person to increase their self-trust by just stepping forward and deciding that they can accomplish what they set out to do. If they don't succeed the first time, they will just get back up and try again. The successful person may have fallen many times before being able to ride a bike. They just go in and say "I can do this", whether it is interviewing for a job or doing anything else.

For the person who has a lack of confidence, it may be necessary for them to have a total change of attitude. It is like I told my students recently. Rather than accepting for fact when someone tells you that you aren't good enough, turn it around and say "I might have problems in this area right now, but I know I can change that". Not "I think I can" but "I can". Say this every day when you wake up and every night before you go to sleep and eventually you will start to believe it.

So go out and show the world that you are confident. You know you can do it so, like the Nike commercial says, "Just do it"!
