Why I collect postcards

I collect post cards. I have a lovely collection. My passion for post cards began in 2002. My close friend moved to California, and I greatly missed him, and our weekend trips together. I could not devote the time and effort into the art of letter writing at the time. I began mailing out a post card once a week to keep in touch. He began returning the favor, and my collection began.

I had a hard time remembering which ones I had sent him. So I started purchasing three of each postcard I selected. I kept one for my collection, I sent one to my friend in California, and I keep an extra postcard to send to someone else.

My postcard collection includes vintage pieces, dated in the 1920's. I have a great assortment I have received, from destinations I am yet to discover. I have postcards from each state I have visited, and of course my collection from my home area. I have unique and funny postcards also.

Most people who know me are aware of my impressive postcard collection. Postcard collecting is a great hobby for a frequent traveler, or someone who has limited space. Postcards are great on collages, and make an interesting alternative to a photo album. Postcards are also a great way to keep in touch.

I enjoy my postcard collection. I love flipping through my book of postcards and remembering some of the fantastic trips I have taken; the sights, and the cities. I love sending postcards too. It is a nice way to say "I was thinking of you," when you don't have the time to write a letter. Additionally it is less expensive to mail a postcard.

Postcard collecting isn't the most exciting hobby, but it is fulfilling. I collect postcards as souvenirs, and in a way a map of my life. Postcard collecting is also a very inexpensive hobby, postcards range from twenty cents to a dollar each, and thanks to great sights like cafepress.com and vistaprint.com you can design your own postcards at an affordable rate. The possibilities are endless for acquiring new pieces for my collection, as postcards are widely available. You can find them in book stores, cafes, gas stations and antique stores, to name a few places.
