Creating a video game based upon a popular movie has been a theme of failure and just simply a way just to cash in during the theater release. It has happened to many franchises but the most famous to get it right away would be none other than E.T. It was that very same movie that was rushed into the video game world and would be considered the face of the Video Game Crash of 1983. Looking into it, it has a pro and a con behind it depending upon point of view of course.
The major con is that it may not follow the movie. Much like a movie based off a video game may not follow the game doing it justice, the same can be said the other way around. It does seem that the game elements may not follow it and that was a theme with a company by the name of LJN. They had created some of the notorious movies trying to bring them to the video game world such as Who Framed Roger Rabbit or Back to the Future for example.
Other cons may include if indeed trying to get the movie watching audience to immediately get into the video game world, which they may not enjoy very much. As a matter of fact, it could be a case of just simply not appealing and that is just something to consider in the first place.
Not every movie can be made into a game because there are just some that it would look rather strange.
The one major pro that should be mentioned in this ordeal would be the fact that it can reach out to another audience in the first place. Thus, making it seem like a complete overall success. It would really work if it indeed a good movie in the first place. A good example would be the Star Wars franchise with some of the early games created. The earliest game played would be The Empire Strikes Back for the Atari 2600 and it actually was decent for the time.
Ultimately at the end of the whole ordeal, it really comes down to the person directly on whether it was liked or not. No matter how many mainstream critics didn't like a particular game based off a movie, it is really up to the people to play the game to make their own judgment.
Now, if they don't like it, then there is nothing that can be done to change their mind.
With anything, there are pros and cons but it is all in the eyes of the consumer in this case.
What needs to be mentioned the most is that you cannot expect to please everyone as there will be a group that will like it and a group that will hate it without a shadow of a doubt.
