Reflections: If I could change the world

by Douglas Black

Created on: April 05, 2008

The world is a wonderful blend of natural and human designed wonders, but if I could behold a gift as powerful as this topic, I would be humbled to take on such a difficult task. To begin to fix something that has been damaged by so many previous generations would require a complete overhaul to undo, but where would one begin to fix our forefathers legacy. To change methodology and democracy to benefit humanity, instead of a purely power driven society would require an open mind and a desire to become the evolved society we were destined to become.

My first act that I would take on would be to eliminate the suffering of any human being regardless of what country they reside. I feel global economics and man's desire to succeed has failed humanity, hindering our ability to become a society driven by growth and perseverance. If all inhabitants were given an equal chance to be viable members of society, there would be a shift from our current trend of destruction, and a new emergence of a united goal to survive.

Next I would create a mass initiative to seek out new and environmentally healthy resource alternatives. This sounds like a difficult task, but if you consider the amount of funding that goes into military and politics, and diverted it to a more important goal like protecting the planet, it would be unimaginable how much could be truly accomplished. This might seem too unrealistic to contemplate, when our borders are up in arms, and our nations are segregated, while living in a state of fear, but if survival were the ultimate goal, this would seem to become a crucial ingredient in achieving it.

The most important change in the world would have to involve the government itself. These archaic institutions that are supposed to be in place to ensure our existence are now showing evident argument that they may be a part of the problem that is currently plaguing humanity today. I would not be able to say that there is no need for order or law, but I would have to eliminate borders that determine who we are. The uniting of humanity would be a critical implementation to prevent world tension that stems from our present conditions in which we live by.

I would also create governmental policies to ensure every man woman and child had an opportunity for education at no cost. If education promotes growth, and this growth would generate a society designed to evolve for a single purpose, than it makes equal sense that the government should be responsible to properly equip
