Evangelism for the everyday Christian

Evangelism for the everyday Christian comes in many varieties, and there's no excuse for not sharing the Gospel, and you can by keeping it simple. Your testimony of how Jesus has changed your life is the easiest way to share the Gospel. I have not found many, who are not touched by a personal story or a life-changing moment.

For instance, I remember as a young girl I used to bring the neighborhood kids to my front porch, and share Jesus with them. I would tell them a Bible story and we would sing a song together. I know my small toy piano wasn't exactly the greatest instrument, but we did make a joyful sound. Children are some of the greatest evangelists in the world, they are bold and unafraid.

I guess my own testimony is a bit humorous, and I have shared it many times. When it came time for me to either repent or not, I was very honest with God and admitted that I was not excited about becoming a Christian.

Christians were boring and they couldn't do this, and they couldn't go there, but I decided it was better than going to hell, so I gave in and said I was sorry, for all my wrong doings.

No doubt God had a chuckle, at my pitiful attempt to be forgiven and start on the narrow way. Little did I know my life was getting ready, for a lot of changes. I know now I was saved for the wrong reason, to miss hell, but stay saved for the right reason, to have a relationship with the Father.

I began this journey over 30 years ago, and there have been lots of ups and downs, and a few crashes along the way. Can I quote chapter and verse? Probably not, but I have a good idea about the Old Testament stories and where to go for wisdom in Proverbs.

I know where to find instructions for the church today, in the New Testament. The apostle Paul's writings are practical and to the point, he didn't beat around the bush with the truth.

One thing I have discovered, people don't care how much you know, they want to know how much you care, and through sharing the Good News I can do that.

Many years ago I assisted a dear friend of mine, teach Bible stories in a local school system, and I learn a little song that will sum up the idea of keeping evangelism simple.

Put your faith in action wear a great big smile
Put your faith in action wear a great big smile,
The world will see, the world will know,
The love that's in your heart will bubble up and overflow,
Put your faith in action wear a great big smile.

The song goes on about lending a helping hand, or reading God's Word and praying. These are a few simple ways to show the love of God in the everyday life.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to love people, in fact Jesus said the world will know you are my disciples, if and when you love one another. So go ahead tell somebody that Jesus loves them and then show them you do too.
