7 GREAT BENEFITS TO EAT DANDELION ROOTS

1. Wart an Liver spot remover.

Will Greer who was an actor who portrayed Grampa Walton was on a late night talk show and they were talking about practical ways to use the milky sap found in the stems of dandelions.
Will Greer told the audience to break open the dandelion stem and rub that juice on any wart two to three times a day. He guaranteed that you wouldn't be bothered with warts again.

Will Greer also said to rub that same milky substance on liver spots that are found on the back sides of elderly people's hands. But he said to use more juice and rub it more throughly.

2. Used in the treatment of hypertension and weak heart.

In the Spring dandelion leaves and roots produce mannitol, a substance used in the treatment of hypertension and weak heart throughout Europe.A tea made of roots and leaves is good to drink between mid March to mid May.

Dandelion Tea

Bring one quart water to boil
Reduce heat
Add 2 Tablespoons cleaned and chopped fresh roots
Cover and simmer for one minute
Remove from heat
Add 2 Tablespoons chopped, freshly picked leaves
Steep for 40 minutes
Strain and drink 2 cups per day

3. Used in Liver problems like hepatitis, cirrhosis, jaundice and toxity and also gallstones

Dr John Lust a late naturopathic physican recommended this remedy for liver problems
Bring one quart of water to boil
reduce heat to low
Add about 20 Tablespoons of fresh dandelion leaves, stems -cleaned and chopped root
Simmer as long as it takes to reduce liquid to a pint
Take 3 Tablespoons 6 times a day

Or if you prefer you can take in a capsule form called AKN Formula from Nature's Way found at any health food store.

4. Remedy for Diabetes

Dr David Potterton a Great Britain Herbalist wrote that the high content of the dandelion root may be regarded as a sugar substitute to prescribe for people with diabetes mellitus. Three capsules of the dried root each day he recommends.

5. Flowers improve night blindness

For those who have trouble seeing clearly in the dark, the substance called helenin found in dandelion flowers may be the answer. According to the Journal of the American Medical Association for June 23, 1951 which carried this report, the blossoms contain vitamin A and B-2 (riboflavin).

Steep a handful of freshly picked flowers in a pint of hot water for about 20 minutes.
Drink 1 cup twice a day.

6. Reduces Fever of Childhood Infections

If your child or grandchild comes down with measles, mumps or chicken pox whic are 3 common infectious diseases of childhood years then dandelion tea is the answer.

Dandelion Tea

Bring 1 quart of water to boil
Reduce heat
Add 2 1/2 Tablespoons dried cut root
Cover and simmer for 12 minutes
Remove from heat
Add 3 teaspoons dried cut leaves
Steep for 30 minutes
Strain
Sweeten with 1 teaspoon pure maple syrup or 1 teaspoon blackstrap molasses per cup of tea
Give to the child lukewarm every 5 hours until fever breaks and lung congestion clears up

This tea is also good for upper respiratory infections form pneumonia to chronic bronchitis

7. Homemade Dandelion Wine

Needed :
2 quarts dandelion flowers
1/2 gallon water
1 Orange
1/2 Lemon
1 1/4 lbs. of brown sugar
1/2 cake yeast

Carefully remove all traces of stems
Place flowers in some kind of crockware
Add the sugar, sliced orange and lemon
Pour boiling water over everything
Let set 2 days stirring occasionally
On the 3rd day strain into another crock and add yeast
Let ferment 2 weeks in a warm place
